Magazine Advert Examples

These are some magazine advert examples that I have analysed

Story Board

This is my storyboard so far

This picture shows the first minute drawn out on story boards

This is the majority of the second minute of the song

This is from 2 minutes onwards. It is not yet finished and is currently just a few scenes put together. I don't currently think I have enough ideas to fill it and hope to as I start filming and thinking practically about the video.

Risk Assessment

One area of risk whilst filming could the use of skateboards in the video. To make Matt and Danny, who will be skateboarding, look casual they won't be wearing pads or a helmet. Also, they will also be concious of looking towards the camera and making some contact whilst skating. Another point is that they will be doing in the centre of Leicester so there will be people close and aroumnd them whilst skating. Because of this I would say maybe there is a medium risk in filming this since one of them could quite easily lose control and fall off or colide with another peson. However, i would say the risk is slightly reduced since they are both experienced on a skateboard so will be unlikely to make a small crash from falling off.

Another risk I have considered is the risk of me falling over whilst filming. Luckily, I would consider this to be very low risk since I think although some of my shots may be panning that I stay stationary from using a tripod while filming so I hopefully won't be falling over.

The use of musical equipment is another risk to consider. When heading to film the video there will be a lot of equipment to carry around which will bring some risk. Someone may injury themselves through strain of carrying equipment or injure themselves carring it since items like guitars can be quite heavy. However, I consider this to be very low risk.

Also, since some of the shots will be filmed near or by the sides of road they must be concious of the risk of tripping off the pavement and being hit by a car. Although this is very low risk it must be considered since it could have terrible results

Lego Monkeys on Twitter!

To add to the Lego Monkeys presence as a band I created a twitter account for them and filled in details using my knowledge of twitter and other artists twitter pages. Due to the fact I haven't actually pictured my own band yet I just used pictures of Bombay Bicycle Club in there place just to make it look authentic and not just a plain page.

This is a print screen of the first tweet I sent out using the band page. I used convention of twitter such as trying to gain interest to the page through advertising for followers and using a # at the end of the tweet.

To add to the authenticity of the page and make it look more realistic I made the page follow other music artists. As you can seen on the print screen below I made the band follow The Vaccines, Tim Westwood, Kerrang!, Benny Benassi, BBC Radio 1, Rizzke Kicks, Emeli Sande and Ed Sheeran and other that can't be seen.

Band Name Decision

I have decided to name my band 'Lego Monkeys'. After I had to rule out two of my band name ideas, one of which I wanted as my band name, due to the language used in them being innapropriate. In my mind it came down to 'Scrapheap Mojo' and 'Lego Monkeys' and after breifly asking a few members of my class ,including my teacher, Lego Monkeys generally seemed to have a better perception so I have decided to use it

Audience Profile

To conduct my audience research I used Uk tribes (uktribes.com) to see what audience my music video would appeal to and after browsing the website I have decided the most suited audience is Young Alts.

Young Alts listen to a huge variety of bands and try Skater, Emo and even Urban fashions. They also love a lot of mainstream fashion and music. The Young Alts make for a largely safe and non-judgemental Tribe in which to experiment with all of these styles.

The Tribes icons are Kurt Cobain, Hadouken!, Greenday, Bring The Horizon & You Me At Six

Band Name Ideas

These are some ideas I had for my artist's band name:

The Fazy Luckers

Scrapheap Mojo

Fail biscuits

Lego Monkeys

Mexico Club Stampede

Twats Like Us

Unfourtunatly, although I wanted to make my band name 'Twats Like Us' I had to consider the marketing of an album. Firstly, through using rude language the artists songs would not be able to be played on the radio since the name would not be able to be used. Also, currently one of the main franchises for selling albums is in supermarkets which are designed for family use so an album with rude language would not get stocked. I think this also crosses out 'The Fazy Luckers' aswell :(

Location shots

The first location I will be using is the target room at a band practice building called Stayfree Music Leicester. The idea came when I suggested to my teacher that I needed to find a space to shot band shots, another member of my class recomended it since his band uses it actually to perform as a band. Since I haven't been there yet I have found these pictures on the website of the room I have hired: http://www.stayfreemusic.co.uk/?page_id=20
I have booked to use this room on Saturday 13th October for an hour to film this since this was when the band members where most avalible.

The Artist Profile

The music artist is a 4 piece indie rock band from Leicester

The Artist name is Lego Monkeys

They are a band of 4 young lads who gained fame and success from posting songs on YouTube, touring around the UK and their newest single which is highly anticipated. They are all friends originally from Leicester who met at college and upon leaving decided to make their band full time rather then moving into employment. They are all out going but there is nothing they like more then playing live concerts for their fans. They keep fans up to date with the band through using social networking sites such as Twitter and Myspace. Their future ambition is to take their music style to America and then around the world.

Group Changes Explanation

It must be very confusing for anyone reading my blog with all these different song ideas and group so i thought I would explain what is happening

Originally I was in a group of 4 called epak but our teacher thought it would be for the best if the group split up since we wouldn't all get good credit for our work since there was that many of us.

Then, I rushed into joining a group with 2 other lads to start to formulate ideas. It was going...ok but over that weekend I decided that I had my own ideas for a song and a concept for a video so I decided to leave the new group

I am now working by myself to create my own project so that I can produce the ideas I have using who I want.

Song Choice Ideas

Rizzle Kicks - Call It What You Want (Foster the People Remix)

The Midnight Beat - Booty Call

Lostprophets - Last Train Home

Beastie Boys - Sabotage

Bloodhound Gang- The Bad Touch

Mood Board

This is our new moodboard for our new group, overall I think this better expresses my intrest in music compared to the epak mood board.

Groups Changes

Due to our teacher having an issuee with there being 4 members of our group, he thought it would be for the best if we split up as a group so now I will have to decide on a new idea ):

Presentation Feedback

After we did our pitches from Animoto, we waited for people to ask us about the video. Aswell as the animoto we also gave a small introduction on our video so we can enable the audience to understand it better. Firstly, we did not get asked any questions which is a good thing as it meant everyone understood what we doing well. We were then asked questions by the teacher only about how we would portray the athletes at the end reaching their goal. This got us thinking about it but we explained how we could change this fact and be unsure about the athletes becoming professional but having children who can be playing the sport and then it will show them as teenagers and them training hard. This was the main feedback that caused concern for our group but we are making decisions as a team to go through this.

Audience Profile

The genre of our music video is Hip Hop so the main target audience will be people who enjoy Hip Hop. However, we have put a twist in the video which can also relate to people who play sport as we have twisted Hip Hop with sport. In the UK (using UK tribes) the group of people who our video will relate to most is the Get Paid Crew, these are people who think a lot about money and aspire to people like JAY Z (who is a Hip Hop rapper). As we are twisting the video with sport, it can also relate to the UK tribe Sport Junkies. These are the people who have devoted their lives to sport since they were born. Our video is based on people growing up with sport and has a hip hop song in the background which adds the twist to it. The age of our target audience can pretty much be any one as we have decided on making our video inspiring so all people can enjoy it. But with the Hip Hop song playing in the background, we think that song is more linked to people in their teens to mid 20's as it is an old song but has a very catchy beat to it. It is also mainly just men from 14-26 but the music video itself can be enjoyed by everyone.

Plan B

Plan B, real name Ben Drew is a British Musician, Rapper, Actor and Director. Originally he was a big influence to me through his music, but slowly progressed into acting, staring in films such as: Harry Brown, The Sweeney, Adulthood and 4. 3. 2. 1. Recently he has also moved into directing and made his directing debut with a film he wrote entitled: Ill Manors. When doing a media project like this for these reasons he id obviously going to be a big inspiration onto my work. I would consider doing one of his songs for my own video but his songs have a dark element that I don't think I would be able to replecate.

This is the trailer to his film Ill Manors
